It is with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of Brendan Burke, our esteemed Goaltending Director.

Brendan recently accepted a Goaltending Coach offer from the American Hockey League's (AHL) Harford Wolfpack, the New York Rangers affiliate. This fall, Brendan and his wife Bailey will be moving East to pursue this incredible opportunity.

Brendan joined the Jr. Coyotes leadership team in the summer of 2022, bringing with him a wealth of playing and coaching experience and a deep-rooted connection to our program. A Scottsdale native, Brendan played all his youth hockey within the Coyotes Amateur Hockey Association as a member of the Jr. Coyotes. His career came full circle in 2013 when he was selected 163rd overall in the NHL Entry Draft by the Arizona Coyotes, his hometown team.

Brendan’s hockey journey and achievements are remarkable. Following the 2010-2011 season as a member of the 16U Jr. Coyotes, Brendan embarked on a five-year stint in the Canadian Hockey League. During that time, he played with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks from 2011-2015, winning the 2013 WHL Championship.

In addition, he spent time in the OHL playing for the Calgary Hitmen and the London Knights. As a member of the Knights, Brendan captured a Memorial Cup and received the Dave Pinkney Award, given to the top goalie tandem in the OHL.

While Brendan’s tenure with CAHA was brief and went by too quickly, he gained valuable experience, learned a great deal, and had a tremendous impact on our players and program. His contributions and dedication raised the level of training and development of Jr. Coyote netminders highlighted by numerous successes including:

  • 2 Jr. Coyote goalies selected in the 2024 USHL Drafts (more than any other youth hockey organization in the US or Canada)
  • 2 Jr. Coyote goalies selected in the WHL Draft
  • 5 Jr. Coyote goalies selected to attend Rocky Mountain District Camp
  • 2 Jr. Coyote goalies selected to attend USA Hockey National Camp
  • 1 Jr. Coyote goalie sign in the AJHL

While working with the Jr. Coyotes, his aspirations to work at the next level was supported by program leadership and he was afforded the opportunity to share his skills with his former team, the Portland Winterhawks as their Assistant Goaltending Coach (22-23), and Goaltending Coach this past season.

We bid Brendan a heartfelt farewell and wish him the absolute best as he continues his hockey journey and career. Brendan’s contributions to the Jr. Coyotes program have been invaluable, and he will always be part of the CAHA Family.

Please join us in congratulating Brendan and Bailey on this exciting new chapter!
